Charles C. "Chuck" Mitchell, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 4, 1950, in Hillsboro, Wisconsin, Chuck grew up in Lodi, where he graduated from Lodi High School in 1968. He dedicated 26 years of his career to Alkar before pursuing his passion as a bookseller, a role he cherished until his final days.

In 1991, Chuck moved to Portage, where he soon married the love of his life, Beatriz. An outdoorsman at heart, Chuck found joy in hunting, fishing, and cutting wood with his buddies. At home, he embraced the quiet beauty of country living, where you could find him tending to his garden, cooking, and riding his tractor.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor (Donnelly) and Harley Mitchell, and his granddaughter, Haley Stevelt-Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Beatriz Somoza; his children, Adrian Mitchell (Andrea), Chad Mitchell (Kristy), Melissa Marshall (John), and Arielle Mitchell-Somoza; and his grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, Dylan, Blake, Kylee, and Connor. He is also remembered by his siblings, James Mitchell (Linda), Sharon Thompson, Thomas Mitchell, William Mitchell (Nancy), and Patricia Meade (John); his in-laws, Luis Somoza (Monica) and Cristina Somoza; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Kratz Funeral Home in Portage. The family will receive visitors beginning at 3:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 4:30 p.m. A reception in Chuck's honor will take place immediately after the service.
