August "Augie" George Pokrywka, age 80 years, of Briggsville, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. He was born on November 12, 1929 in Chicago to August and Bernice (Kurdys) Pokrywka. August was united in marriage to Dorothy Felish on October 10, 1953 at the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Chicago. Augie has lived in Briggsville for 40 years where he was a cement finisher for DeGraf Brothers Construction Company. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Briggsville and the Briggsville VFW. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing and he served in the US Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife - Dorothy of Briggsville; 3 children - Sam Pokrywka of Geneva, IL, Mary Ann (Andre) Bukowski of St. Charles, IL and Kevin (Denise) Pokrywka of Lombard, IL; 5 Grandchilden - Bradley, Nicholas and Philip Bukowski and Elise Rae and Ryan Pokrywka; Brother - Edward (Joan) Covers of Barrington, IL and Sister - Delores Jasinski of Barrington, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Briggsville with Father James Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Briggsville with military rites by the Briggsville VFW # 329. Friends may call at the church on Friday from Noon until 2:00 PM. Service Details.
