Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Bortz Sr. age 89 of Portage, WI died on Saturday October 4, 2025 at Hamilton Park Place in Portage, WI

Tony was born on January 11, 1936 in Pardeeville, Wisconsin to Henry and Emma (Graack) Bortz.

Tony married Kathleen Kutzke September 3, 1955. Their love was deep, and they made many wonderful memories together. In 1974 they started Bortz Masonry- a business built not just on bricks and mortar, but on integrity, craftsmanship and lots of hard work. What made his business truly special was sharing it with two of his sons, Mike and Dan, and later to be added to the mix Chad, Josh, and Greg, his grandsons.

Tony loved driving his semi and never missed the opportunity to sound the horn and use the jake brake when coming into the shop, so Mom would always know he was home.

Tony and Kathleen bought a home in Tomahawk Wi. and spent many a weekend there. It was the heart of family gatherings where much laughter and memories were made.

After retiring, Bullhead City AZ. called their name and what began as a getaway soon became a second home. Tony discovered a new love: golf, surrounded by desert beauty. He traded his work boots for golf shoes, cold winters for warm. He lived life with gusto making the most of each day.

Tony attended Cornerstone Bible Church and truly loved the new friendships made there.

Anthony is survived by his children, Michael (Liss) Bortz, Daniel (Nita) Bortz, Tony (Diane) Bortz; his grandchildren Chad Bortz, Joshua Bortz, Amy(Joshua Ostmann) Bortz, Greg (Amanda) Bortz, Adam (Jayne) Bortz all of Portage, Leslie (David) Grimm of Waunakee, Sarah (Jeffrey Stumpf) Sandeen, of Prairie du Sac, Jon (Christie) Bortz Joplin, MO. Anthony (MacKenzie Boerst) Bortz Dundee, MI 12 great-grandchildren and his special niece, Jennie (Charlie) Blau and their family. His sisters, Annie, and Betty He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathleen, brothers, Arnold, Art, Howard, Fred, Ken, and his sisters, Kathleen, Lillian, Rose and Carol.
