Alice Marie Henke, age 94 died on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Heritage House in Portage. She was born on January 9, 1919 in the Town of Lewiston to William and Ella (Manthey) Crawford. Alice was united in marriage to Chester Johnson of July 26, 1941; he preceded her in death on January 17, 1988. She later married Herbert Henke and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2008. Alice had lived in Milwaukee where she assisted Chester as a bookkeeper in their tile business and was a waitress at the Boston Store cafeteria. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lewiston, enjoyed crocheting, interior decorating, playing cards, puzzles and gambling. Survivors include her loving family of 2 sisters Florence Coleman of Portage, Doris (Harvey) Domstrich of Poynette, brother Donald (Joyce) Crawford of Pardeeville, 2 sister in laws Larryne Crawford of Portage and Carol Crawford of Pardeeville, 2 step children Diane (Dave) Thomson of Portage and Mark (Sue) Henke of Portage, 2 step grandchildren Kevin Thomson and Brian Thomson, 1 step great grandchild Kendall Thomson, 6 God children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward, Russell, Kenneth, Elmer and Charles, 2 sisters Helen Gross and Dorothy Wolfram and a sister in law Doris Crawford. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage with Rev. William Grimm officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Portage.
