Obituary

Alice Lillian (Bakke) Doerr, age 82 years, of Portage died peacefully June 15, 2011 at the Columbia County Health Care Facility in Wyocena, the "long good-bye" is over. Alice was born on the family farm in Dane on August 10, 1928 to Lewis and Iva (Vogts) Bakke. After leaving the farm Alice worked at the phone company and Badger Ordinance before becoming a housewife and mother. In 1966, she went to work as a legal secretary for William F. Murphy. In 1978, she ran unsuccessfully for Columbia County Clerk. That same year she went to work for PC Kaiser Road Construction as the office manager/secretary until her retirement. She was an avid bowler, loved to travel, volunteered as an usher at Portage Area Community Theater and for the "Meals on Wheels". Alice was an active member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Portage before dementia/alzheimers took over her life. Survivors include - Two daughters - Rhea (Timothy) Henney and Debra (David) Hesse both of Portage; five grandchildren - Benjamin Shortreed of Baraboo, Justin "Guss" Shortreed of Mrytle Beach, SC, Colin Raimer of Portage, PVT Casey Raimer of Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Cara Henney of Portage; given grandchildren - Elizabeth Henney - fiancé-Matthew of Porter, IN, Jonathon (Paula) Henney of Sun Prairie, Spencer and Elizabeth Hesse of Madison; two brothers - Robert (Barbara) Bakke and Glenn (Joan) Bakke both of Dane; and sister in law - Nancy Bakke of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother - Ralph Bakke and a son in law - Daniel Raimer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Portage with Rev. Vicki Warren officiating. Burial will be at the Dane United Church of Christ Cemetery, Dane, WI. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage on Sunday from 3 - 6 PM and at the church on Monday from 10 AM until 11 AM.
